A very special birthday was celebrated over the weekend in our Assisted Living. Imogene Larson turned 107! “Imy” has been a local fixture in Metamora for over 70 years and moved to Snyder Village at the age of 100. Recently, we spoke to her daughter, Sherry, who shared some fun memories and information about her mother. One fun fact is that Imy has had a Coke every single day for as long as Sherry can remember. “…Probably since it was invented!”, says Sherry.
Imy met her husband in downstate Illinois when he was student teaching. They married and moved to Metamora, where he was a teacher at the local high school for many years. They built a house in Metamora, where Imy has now been a part of the local community for over 70 years. She has always been very community-oriented and willing to lend a helping hand to whomever may need it. She spent much of her life volunteering and being active in her church. She has always had a love of gardening, knitting, and being artistic. At one point, she even took porcelain classes!
“She has always been happy throughout her life,” says Sherry. Perhaps a big part of Imy’s happiness stems from her life-long mantra: Always be grateful for what you have.
Happy 107th Birthday, Imogene!
